Dear Colleagues,

It gives me immense pleasure and honor to write this inaugural editorial. A maxillofacial surgery journal with a global outlook and a wide reach is the need of the hour. Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery, by following an open-access policy, for the first time in this part of the world would become a truly international journal in reach and access. This would tremendously increase the readership and citation rates. For the first time, an Indian maxillofacial surgery journal is being published with the immense backing of a true legend-Prof. Daniel Laskin.

Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery would print only what has been judged by an eminent panel of reviewers who are internationally known and acclaimed. The reviewer board of Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery is predominantly international in composition, with expertise as the only criterion of selection. It also has several national legends on its editorial board.

In the years to come, with the support of reviewers and authors, Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery's aim will be to publish breakthrough information originating from experimental maxillofacial surgical research data which would herald advancement of maxillofacial surgery.

To enable faster and easier dissemination of maxillofacial surgical knowledge, Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery intends to follow the open-access policy, wherein, for the first time in India, readers need not pay for accessing the articles. With this approach, not only will maxillofacial surgery knowledge be generated across the globe but would also herald a change and betterment in clinical practice among maxillofacial surgeons worldwide.

I thank Prof. JN Khanna, Chairman and Prof. Rajesh Dhirawani, National Coordinator of Indian Academy of Maxillofacial Surgery, for their trust in me and their untiring support in bringing out Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery.

I take this opportunity to thank the office bearers of Indian Academy of Maxillofacial Surgery, senior colleagues and our esteemed members of reviewer board for being a part of this journal. I thank Prof. Daniel Laskin for supporting us. I would like to thank the authors who have placed an explicit trust in us.

Annals of Maxillofacial Surgery is open to constructive criticism in the form of letters to the editor. Please do send in your comments and suggestions.
